Thank you and goodbye to our Vice-Chair Richard Kirton

ODEF's long-serving vice-chairman, the Reverend Canon Richard Kirton, retired as vicar of Ollerton on 31 January 2008 and, as a consequence, also retired from ODEF on the same day.

Richard introduced himself to many ODEF members when he attended the very first Coalfields Regeneration Conference in 1998 which was held in Ollerton Miners Welfare. This was just before he took up his new position as vicar and it was clear from the start that he cared passionately about the social and economic conditions he witnessed in his new parish. He very soon joined as a member of ODEF and was elected to the Core Group shortly after. Since then, Richard has been a valuable member and his contributions to the organisationand his hard work have made a tremendous difference to ODEF. He took a keen interest in all aspects of ODEF's work and was particularly keen to support young people. Richard was the pioneer behind the establishment of the Ollerton Youth Project where he was able to channel even more of his enthusiasm for the benefit of the younger generation. Richard was unique and he will be greatly missed.

We wish Richard and his wife Barbara a long and happy retirement.
