New 'Home Grown' project for ODEF and Feelgood Foods
The ODEF Environment Action Team has been working for some time on a new initiative that is now ready to be launched. ODEF, together with Feel Good Foods, will be working closely with a number of the local schools on an educational project called 'Home Grown'. Using valuable resource material researched and gathered together last year by ODEF member, John Marlow, the project will involve pupils learning all about the way our community managed to keep themselves self-sufficient during the years of World War Two. Allotments and gardens formed the basis of keeping local people supplied with the food and products they needed during periods of austerity. Ollerton still retains the legacy of its allotments which are as popular today as ever. The schools will each be choosing a particular aspect of the project that they want to get involved in and, hopefully, will start up in eight participating schools in September 2008.
